The
successful use of cyanates in the control of sickle cell crisis has
been indicated clinically and experimentally. Thiocyanate, an
intermediate product of the metabolism of Vitamin B-17 is thought to
be the active component. The recommended daily supplementation of
Vitamin B-17 is 50 to 100 mg for small children and 250 to 500 mg
per day for the adult sickler.
